Today A new  video has Turnd up that shows a unannouced yet smartphone. About this video is thought to be the Nokia N900 otherwise known as the Ace. It appears to have a lot of Nokia 700 DNA in the design with the addition of a speaker grill on the bottom of the phone.Nokia 900 Leak on a promo video,

This is an official Nokia video apparently so it’s a bit odd to see the firm teasing with an unreleased smartphone. In shots with the screen activated and the control buttons on it’s clear this is a Windows Phone. That is no surprise given the tie up with Nokia and Microsoft for Mango devices.

The gang at MyNokiaBlog figures that the phone in the pics could have a screen as large as 4-inches from comparing icon sizes with the Lumia. Who knows what phone this really is, but it could well be the Ace.

German court grants Motorola formal injunction against Apple

In the ongoing patent battle between Motorola and Apple, the latest round went in favor of Motorola, as the German court granted a formal injunction against Apple that could result in Motorola asking to ban Apple products that violate their patents from selling in Europe.

Looking at Motorola's statement, though, it seems that the company will probably not be doing anything as such. They instead seem more interested in licensing Apple their technology (after collecting the damages for using it without permission since April 2003, of course) and moving on with life. Here's the official statement from Motorola.
As media and mobility continue to converge, Motorola Mobility's patented technologies are increasingly important for innovation within the wireless and communications industries, for which Motorola Mobility has developed an industry leading intellectual property portfolio. We will continue to assert ourselves in the protection of these assets, while also ensuring that our technologies are widely available to end-users. We hope that we are able to resolve this matter, so we can focus on creating great innovations that benefit the industry.
Apple statement, on the other hand, seems to suggest that their products and business in Germany are in no real danger, at least at the moment. Here's their official statement.
This is a procedural issue that has nothing to do with the merits of the case. This does not affect our ability to sell products or do business in Germany at this time.
The Verge's Nilay Patel's explanation to this is that it's because Motorola sued both the German Apple division and Apple Inc. and while the former is still fighting the case the latter decided to not bother with it, resulting in the injunction. But since Apple Inc. doesn't itself sell anything in Germany, Motorola's victory doesn't mean much.
FOSS Patent's Florian Mueller seems to strongly disagree with Patel's argument though and points out that if Apple Inc. were to be banned from selling in Germany they won't be in a position to provide Apple Germany with products, resulting in no sale.
At the end of the day, the ball is in Motorola's court now. Apple will obviously continue to fight them and we will find out the final result of this battle soon enough

Android distribution in October: Gingerbread takes the lead

Google updated the Android versions distribution charts and confirmed that the second Gingerbread release (covering versions 2.3.3-2.3.7) is now in the lead. 43.9% of all droids are now running on Gingerbread, which turned out enough for the platform to surpass the previous leader, Froyo.
Way past its peak, Android 2.2 Froyo continues to lose ground as most of the handsets that used to run it are getting Gingerbread updates and there are barely any new devices with Froyo out of the box available on the market.
Far behind, Android 2.1 Eclair is now powering 10.7% of the droids out there, losing one percent point of its market share over the past month. The stubborn Android 1.5 Cupcake and 1.6 Donut still refuse to get off the Android map, but at least now they only account for just 2.3% of the Android smartphones out there.

In the tablet world Honeycomb continues its slow growth, its three versions now running on 1.9% of the Android devices. The good news there is that the 3.0 release, which felt more like a beta version is only responsible for 0.1% of the market share and it should be completely gone really soon.
Naturally, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich isn't present in the charts yet, as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is yet to hit the shelves.

HTC Rezound with Beats Audio announced, live shots inside

HTC officially unveiled the HTC Rezound at a dedicated event it held in New York today. Leaked numerous times before, the HTC Rezound with Beats Audio is the company's new Android flagship. The Verizon-exclusive smartphone will be the first US droid with Beats Audio and will come with LTE support.

The HTC Rezound runs Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread with Sense 3.5 on its 4.3-inch 1280x720 pixels display and HTC promised that it will be updating it to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012.
The Rezound will be the first smartphone with a 720p screen to hits the big Red (the Galaxy Nexus will actually become available a few days later), and is the only one on the market to boast a pixel density of 342 ppi.
Powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Scorpion processor and sporting 1GB of RAM, the HTC Rezound shouldn't have any issues in the performance department. Storage is covered, too, with 16GB of on-board storage and a 16GB micro SD card included in the retail package.

At the back the HTC Rezound sports an 8MP f/2.2 camera capable of shooting 1080p video. To improve its low-light performance, HTC has blessed the Rezound with a dual LED flash. Naturally, there's Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi radios on tap as well.
The HTC Rezound comes with Beats Audio sound enhancements and the special tangle-free Beats Audio headphones included in the retail package.
As we were at the HTC Rezound announcement event we are able to bring you a bunch of live photos of the device.

HTC Rezound first press shots surface, we get ready for tonight

HTC Rezound has now leaked a couple of times but never did we get to see it under official studio lights. Now though, thanks to Pocketnow.com, we can see the Rezound much clearer than before.
What we know so far is not much, really. The HTC Rezound will feature a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 resolution S-LCD display and will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
At the back, the leaked pres pic reveals the 8MP camera with dual LED flash. Speaking of the back, the logo at the bottom of the cover suggests that the phone is going to feature the Beats Audio by Dr. Dre, like the Sensation XE.
The Rezound will run on Verizon's 4G LTE network and is expected to start shipping mid-November for $299 on contract, of course. We'll know much more about the Rezound after tonight's HTC launch in New York. It should start around 7PM London time.

Android extends its lead in the US smartphone race, Nielsen reports

The analysts from Nielsen have just published their report on the smartphone market in the US and revealed that Android is still the most popular platform there. 43% of all US mobile subscribers now own a smartphone and 43% of them have a device running the Google OS.
The 43% market share represents a 4 percent points increase compared to the Android result in Q2. In fact, Android is the only platform to gain ground over the past three months in the US.

In second place, iOS is not doing too bad either, managing to retain its 28% market share. That’s despite the fact that Apple didn't release a new iPhone in Q3, so the Cupertino-based company should have every reason to be optimistic about the Holiday season.
It's all doom and gloom behind the leading couple with the third-placed operating system, BlackBerry, only powering 18% of the smartphones in the US. The RIM-owned platform has slipped 2 percent points in the last quarter alone as the Canadians still struggle to match the level of usability of iOS and Android.
Last of the major platforms comes Microsoft Windows Phone, but that one is unable to maintain its market share either. With a market share of just 7% and 2 percent points down compared to Q3, WP runs the risk of being relegated to the dreaded others category.

Motorola XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition are now official

After a long wait for Motorola to reveal a successor to their Honeycomb-running XOOM tablet, today the company officially announced not one, but two XOOM tablets - the XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition. Both tablets boast slimmer and lighter bodies and design features, which seem to be taken straight out the RAZR and initially will be available in Wi-Fi variants only.

Motorola XOOM 2

The XOOM 2 is the direct successor of the original XOOM, packing a 10.1-inch 1280x800 display with Corning Gorilla Glass for extra protection. Powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, the XOOM 2 comes with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage, which is yet unknown if could be expanded via a microSD card.
Motorola has really tried hard to improve the XOOM 2 and as a result it weighs the whopping 131 grams less than the old XOOM and is thinner by a nudge over 4mm. The XOOM also comes with splash-guard technology, like the RAZR, which features a special coating to prevent incidental splashes from ruining the device.
However, in the camera department things are not so rosy. Motorola has thrown the same 5MP camera from the original XOOM, but to make things worse, the XOOM 2 has only a single LED flash, instead of two. The front camera, too,has been downgraded from 2MP to 1.3MP. Still, the battery promises 10+ hours of Web usage and over a month of stand-by time.

Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition

With its 8.2-inch 1280x800 display, again coated with Corning Gorilla Glass, the XOOM 2 Media Edition fills the company's blank space in the sub 8.9-inch tablet market quite well. Just like its bigger brother the XOOM 2, the Media Edition packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and 5MP camera at the back.
However, unlike it, the XOOM 2 Media Edition weighs in at 386 grams and is a hair under 9mm thin. Naturally, the battery is smaller, due to the size of the tablet, and is good for 6 hours of web browsing and about half a week of music playback, Motorola claims.

Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition official photos
Both tablets will run Android Honeycomb 3.2, with the company keeping its cards close to the chest whether Ice Cream Sandwich will hit both versions of the XOOM 2. Expect the XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition to hit UK and Ireland in mid-November, with more markets to follow soon after. Price is yet unknown, though.
And, finally, check out the cool advertisement Motorola has created for the XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition.
